Gaeren awoke with great energy, zeal and a craving for adventure. He is good-natured, flirtatious and extremely loyal to his friends. His deep empathy for others and strong intuitive senses make him a genuine people-person, able to tell quickly whether someone is hiding something dangerous, or is perhaps rougher on the outside than within. 

Waking the same day as Talæesyn, they became fast friends after just a single conversation about fireflies. He quickly took up elemental magic and began theorizing that the elements could be woven together. After studying in the priory for over a year, he began to discover that they could with additional Ley-Energy. 

Gaeren and Tal's friendship developed a strong rift after Talæesyn began dating an abusive sylvari named Mercer, but shortly after their breakup and the fight against Zhaitan, they reunited and reconciled, staying side-by-side ever since. 

Having been very protective over his best friend and wanting to make sure he wasn't in a bad relationship again, Gaeren was initially very suspicious of Tal's romance with Indi. However, after a brief feud of jealousy on both ends, Indi and Gaeren became close friends. 

During the events shortly after Path of Fire, Gaeren fought a hydra while searching for Aurene, winding up in a cave-in. Though his life was barely saved, he did lose both legs, pinned under a boulder. He was soon taken to Denzel and Xafflen who hooked him up with ley-energy powered robotic legs which he grew very, very proud of. It was also at this time that he met and began romancing Naeem.
