An Archeologist and Professor turned Archon of the Priory, Pydre is a highly motivated and determined leader who has back up plans for his back up plans. He is stiff, uptight and referred to by his subordinates as "Archon Stick" with arguable affection. 

Many who know Pydre debate if there was ever a time when he experienced the wide-eyed innocence typical of newly awakened Sylvari. Few get to see his softer side, but those who know him best understand that his meticulous nature is a form of care for the things and people he loves. 

Before becoming a member of the Priory, he studied necromancy in Orr, running into Trahearne with frequency. The two became close friends, though decided to take their necromancy in very different directions. 

Pydre developed a fascination with the extinct Mursaat and their Spectral Magic, seeing it as his Wyld Hunt to resurrect the lost art. For years both in the Priory and outside of it, he researched this and brought it to near perfection-- but at a cost. The Spectral Agony he weaponizes afflicts the wielder as well. 

Through partnering with The Fractal Project's leading official, he gained access to agony-resistant armor, allowing him to channel his magic with a lower pain threshold.

Naively, he took on a norn apprentice of roughly his age-- 15-- who was quickly consumed by the magic leading to a horrific death. Pydre then swore off ever taking on an apprentice again. 

When the fleet launched into Maguuma, Pydre was stationed on the Priory ship called the Durmand's Crusade as leading officer. The ship went down nearly immediately, and despite Pydre's best efforts, only 16 of the hundred survived. He later met up with the Commander and his rag-tag group scavenged from the camps and when things got dire, sacrificed himself in order to allow the group time to escape. Bleeding out, he was forced into a blighting pod where he was cloned and set upon his friends, but was soon broken out and healed by the same group he had offered his life to protect. He then joined them in taking the fight to Mordremoth. 

Following the events of Heart of Thorns, he was approached by the Priestess of Grenth Karenna in hopes that he would teach her his Spectral magic. After repeatedly telling her that he would not teach her, she finally threatened to research it herself, prompting him to take her under his tutelage so that she might learn more safely. Over time, the two became fond of each other, ultimately developing into a romantic relationship.

About a year after the events of Maguuma, Pydre was kidnapped by a mesmer looking to resurrect the last Mursaat. The remaining members of Hope's Legacy-- soon to be Dragon's Watch-- fought to rescue him, discovering Balthazar in the process. 

After the regrowth of Caladbolg, Pydre declined an offer from Talæesyn to take over as Commander, but he would continue to work closely with Dragon's Watch "playing babysitter to Tyria's Heroes."
